Tried to log in this morning now I'm getting a different error message.

"My moms phone will work on wifi with the internal address. Once I turn the wifi off I get the login error." Once you have turned off wifi the phone is no longer on the internal network and therefore has no ability to connect to the internal address.
The "error connecting to the server" message means that the application cannot connect to the remote access server. Likely this means that the IP address and port are incorrect, or something is completely blocking access along the network route, such as firewall software, or by not actually being on the same network or having a network path.
The 1001 message should be wrapped in friendlier text, but indicates a network timeout - the request could not be completed. This could happen for a number of reasons - if something on the network is discarding/shaping/interfering with traffic, if the network connection is very very poor, if the host machine is incredibly overburdened, etc... The timeouts are quite long, so especially on a local network I wouldn't expect the latter two to be issues.
@TNT
When it stops responding from your iPhone, is it also no longer responding when accessed from a browser on any device? From a browser on the same computer that is running Sighthound Video using the local IP (127.0.0.1)?
Are you using the automatic port opening feature? It could be that your router is closing the port after a certain amount of time and not allowing it to be re-opened, or that another service on your network is competing for the same port.
When you do have trouble reconnecting from the iPhone if a connection from browser on the local machine is also not working, does disabling and re-enabling remote access solve the problem

@whitezryder The external address can currently only be populated in the app if you have the checkbox to automatically "Open this port in my router" selected and your router supports our attempts to automatically reserve the port. If it does not, you will need to manually forward the port and look up your external IP.
