Sighthound, SecuritySpy, EvoCam

My foray into home IP cameras (5+ years) certainly has been a (technological) adventure, which is part of the appeal. I hope it doesn't violate the forum rules to comment about other products. I figure there are three main apps for Macs: Sighthound, Evocam, and SecuritySpy. Each has advantages and d...

Recorded framerate

Hi - when I open recordings directly from the Finder, using Quicktime, the framerate it shows is around 4-6 or so. That's less than I expected - I figured it would be 10. There are only three cameras on the 802.11g network (two going to Sighthound), all at 20 fps. I figure SH is getting at least 10 ...

Video streams

Hi - If I understand this correctly after reading the FAQ and some other comments: ⋅ SH only analyzes 10 fps and stores 10 fps ⋅ SH will ignore anything more than 10 fps ⋅ But it really needs 10 fps ⋅ So if you can guarantee 10 fps, then don’t bother setting y...

Re: Apo & recording

OK, thanks. In the absence of having immediately quit after launch, I'll just select the "hide" option in login items. Quitting is still better, of course, because it's one fewer process, saving CPU cycles.

Scheduling

Is live viewing limited to when rules are in effect? For example, suppose I want a rule only during the day, when I'm not home, but I want to view the live stream when I am home (and the rule is off). Is that possible? Also, is it one clock for all rules (for a given camera)? The schedule indicator ...

Apo & recording

Not an problem - if I understand how the app works, the app does not need to remain open to record, but you must launch the app (such as at startup) to start the recording. Correct?

Right now I have the app as part of the startup items, but I'm wondering if that is superfluous.

Front door rules

Hi - what rule would you recommend for capturing folks approaching your front door (and lingering, and then walking away)? I originally did crossing a boundary, but that got tricked by two people walking side by side along the sidewalk, then one turning toward my house. SH couldn't distinguish betwe...

Run as a service?

Hi - is it possible for Sighthound to be run as a service, launching prior to login (Max OS X)?

I note that very few apps do that, so perhaps there are technical challenges/limitations.
