is Sighthound Video still under development?

by alexeymohr » Mon Mar 26, 2018 8:12 pm

As the title asks, is Sighthound Video still under development? I've noticed that there hasn't been an update to the program in over a year. I'd like to buy the pro version, but I'm a little apprehensive about paying $250 for a software package that's orphaned. I'm currently running the trial and I like it, though it certainly still has some bugs and kinks that I hope will be fixed. I also haven't been able to find any competing software that offers people-detection, which to me is really the calling card feature.

Anyone know development status?

Yes. See release notes.

https://www.sighthound.com/support/release-notes

They typo'd the year in latest release note at the above link...it should be Jan 2018, not Jan 2017. I'm guessing that's why you're confused on the most recent updated.

Many great updates were provided over the last 12 months. It just keeps getting better.

I think this is still a valid question - 11 months since the last update with plenty of work still to do on the product. And it's renewal time soon.

The android app is terrible - SLOOOW and unstable as .... consider it unusable. Web front end isn't much better. Best bet is to RDP in to the server. Wouldn't be a drama if RDP was feasible every time I want to look at what has been going on. This has been a problem for years.

no issues with the android app here..

what phone do you have?

I did have to get rid of the doze feature baked into android to get my notifications on time.

Hi - I've written a new blog post with a bunch of information about Sighthound Video 6:

https://www.sighthound.com/where-is-sighthound-video-6

Highlights... Sighthound Video 6 will:

- Enter open BETA this month (April 2019).
- Be free if in 2018/2019 you paid for a) Sighthound Video or b) support and upgrades.
- Detect generic moving objects, people, animals, and vehicles.
- Benefit from your help to improve "night vision".
- Have way more support than prior releases.

I apologize for the lack of upgrades and support over the past year. I'm an avid Sighthound Video user and I care about this product. The product will continue to improve - today we have a plans for a three-year roadmap, taking us to Sighthound Video 10.

Best,

-Jonathan Taylor
-CEO, SIghthound

Really appreciate you coming out with a road map and explanation of what has been going on the development of SH6. The silence regarding any updates for SH6 was starting to make people nervous. Even those of us that have been around a while and have seen you guys go quiet before a big update.

I look forward to beta testing and will be giving you access to all the night footage you want.

Thanks again!

Will the new version still require the ability to "phone home" to verify the license? My surveillance system is NOT connect to the internet and I cannot use the new capabilities such as remote alerts and monitoring, but I'd like to make use of the better detection capabilities and operation on a stand alone system.

Sumguy - you're welcome!

Semper vaporo - yes, it will still require phone-home verification. Happy to look at this in the future, but to be honest, unfortunately for you this is unlikely to change. I wish I had a better response!

Can you please confirm sighthound 6.0 will have an option to alert us if a camera goes off-line or stops recording. I think this is so vital in any security systems and we have been asking for this vital fature for over 2 years.

Many thanks

Steve
