I'll take the bait and beat this poor dead horse some more....
I have mixed feelings about SightHound as it stands today.
I LOVE the motion detection and the relatively small footprint (install size and amount of resources used when running)
I do not like the timeline (or lack there of) view which makes it very cumbersome to review footage which isn't triggered by a rule and impossible to review multiple cameras simultaneously.
I find it very annoying that I can't change how temporary clips are triggered, if I define a zone then I don't care about anything else, but temporary clips still triggers on any and everything in the view. (temporary or not, I do not want a clip every time a car drives by on the street to clutter my event view)
It would be great if you could export a JPEG (as a file, not email) on a trigger and it would be fantastic if you could submit it to Sighthound.IO / API directly from the software itself (it's my understanding that this might be coming ?).
Playback from a remote device is painfully slow unless you disable all post-processing (i.e. all original, no overlays) and my server have reasonable power and upload speeds is not an issue.
It lacks PTZ control and a few more things that I can't remember off the top of my head.
I've used quite a few products in the past, Milestone XProtect, Acti NVR3, Synology NVR, BlueIris to name a few. None of them comes close to SightHound when it comes to motion detection (milestone might have a shot with expensive 3rd party plugins), but other features are more and better with the alternatives.
So - what's my point !?
If the product was brought from an excellent motion detection engine and a reasonable video recorder to a full fledged Video Surveillance suite then $250 would be a definite bargain, but we're not there yet.
At this time I'm struggling to justify another $190 to run two more cameras, especially when I feel the lack of features may very well force me to run a second NVR to make up for the shortcomings.
