I think the problem is that you are viewing the clips with no specific filtering selected. If you select just the rule in question, the clip will show in the list as saved by rule, but may be a bit shorter than the clip you see in the list when no rule is selected as a filter.
The system will mark a clip as "not saved by rule" if it contains both motion saved by rule and motion not saved by rule... even though a portion of that clip IS saved by a rule.
Personally, I'd prefer it to be the other way around... if any portion of a clip is to be saved by a rule, then it ought to say so. It might be that the clip will eventually be trimmed to a shorter segment when the "Save all data for xx hours" limit is reached, such that if you were to look at the clip prior to that time limit, it would be longer than after the time limit and the system as done the purge of non-rule detected motion.
I, personally, think that it would be more acceptable to mark any clip that contains motion that fits a rule to be marked as saved by rule and not confuse me as to where the clip is that generated the notice (sound, e-mail, etc.). I'd also like for it to tell me WHICH rule it is (I have some cameras that have multiple rules and it would be nice to see a whole list of clips for one camera that also indicates which rule was triggered for each clip).
I also wish I could select multiple rules and/or cameras to filter the list of clips, but that is another subject.
