You should only need to allow incoming and outgoing traffic on whatever port you selected when enabling remote access. It sounds like the rule may not be set up properly in the router config, or may only be allowing traffic originating from certain IP ranges. Does it work if you connect locally from the same machine with your firewall rules enabled? That may help narrow down what setting is blocking.

Seems to be so that a reboot is needed after changing PF config with IceFloor.
