Re: IP address

That's probably the IP addressed assigned by your ISP, which will change periodically.

Re: File sizes and intervals..

Ok, more info....if I watch the network activity in Windows Task Manager, it shows exactly what I would expect for two cameras with a max bandwidth of 2048kbps: on a 100Mbps link, it's using 3%-4%, which is right on the money. But the files being saved to disk are showing bitrates of about 4x what t...

Re: File sizes and intervals..

Cameras are set to VBR, and I cut the max bitrate in half (4096 to 2048) and there's no change. Upon looking at a typical file, Windows is reporting the bitrate to be ~7400kbps, so something is strange here.

File sizes and intervals..

Ok, My video files used to be about 15 minutes each, and they're now about 2 minutes (or less!) each, and the file sizes seem huge.....a 2 minute clip at 1920x1080 (10 fps) is about 130 MB in the day and about half that at night. As you can imagine, even with only two cameras, this is making storage...

Re: Help - I cannot find a low end camera

I'd recommend against wireless cameras and instead go for wired POE cameras. Logic there is that even a wireless camera is going to have to have power run to it....so it's still a wire you have to run. You'll need a POE network switch or POE injector as well. If you go that route, that are tons of c...

Re: Windows 7 Program Quits when I log off

I use RealVNC for this exact reason. Why Windows Remote Desktop logs the current user off upon exiting is beyond me.

Re: CPU usage

See, the resolution is a big deal. If anything happens, I want lots of detail, especially at night. If you can't make out a face from a reasonable distance, you don't really have that much information as to what took place.

Re: CPU usage

Oh I agree that the price is a ripoff, but it does prove that a wimpy CPU can handle multiple cameras. If sighthound has to re-encode the stream to write it disk (which makes no sense because the cameras stream is already h.264), then that's the problem. I'm not going to build a $2000 box to be able...

Re: CPU usage

UPDATE: With the temporary license that enables me unlimited cameras, here's what I've got. Four cameras at 1080p runs the CPU at 40%-60% load, sometimes going up to 80% or so, and still pegging out at 100% for minutes at a time. Any more cameras than that, and the CPU is always maxed out at 100%, m...

Re: CPU hardware requirements for medium system

I currently have a similar thread going regarding CPU usage, and so far it's looking to me that to run six, 3MP cameras, you're going to need some serious hardware. My current setup for testing has four 1080p feeds, and that looks to be the max with this hardware, which is no slouch. CPU is an 8 cor...
