Windows 7 Program Quits when I log off

by jpborjas » Fri Feb 13, 2015 7:51 pm

I'm connecting to my machine via Remote Desktop, so every time I disconnect, SightHound quits. I Have to go all the way to where the physical machine is, and log in manually and leave it there. I'f there's a power failure and my system reboots, I have no camera program. I added the program to start automatically for one user, them for all the users, then on system startup, even as a service with elevated rights, all to no avail. Can someone help me? Again, this is Windows 7.

Thanks in advance.

Hi jpborjas,

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. Are you logging the Windows User out when you disconnect from the remote viewer? Is the computer set to enter sleep mode after a period of inactivity? Sighthound Video currently does not support running as a service and requires the Windows user to be logged in.

My computer is not set to sleep. By definition, remote desktop logs the user out upon exit. This is very critical, as I have to physically go to where the computer is, can't do remote desktop. Are there plans to make it run as a service? This is a must for this types of systems. If my power goes out and comes back, the camera system will not work until I start it manually, and I may not be around the house to do that.

Is there a way to start it as an administrator and set that account for autologon? I tried that, but the app didn't come up. The issue seems to be more about the app not running unattended, needs the UI to run. Any comments on that?

Thanks,

Pablo

Hi jpborjas,

Running as a service is a feature we would like to add though we do not have a release date at the moment. Most remote desktop applications allow you to disconnect from the computer without logging the user out. For example, I've used Teamviewer and realVNC on a Windows 7 machine and was able to keep the user logged in, enter the lock screen, and disconnect from the computer with Sighthound still running.

You can start Sighthound at startup on a Windows machine by placing a shortcut to the Sighthound Video application into the Startup folder.

Sighthound Video will continue to run as long as the user is logged in (can be at the lock screen). You can run the app without the UI open by closing it with the cameras still on. I'd be happy to take a look at your logs for anything unusual if you'd like to submit a bug report. You can do so by going to Help > Report a Problem. Be sure to link to this forum post.

I use RealVNC for this exact reason. Why Windows Remote Desktop logs the current user off upon exiting is beyond me.
