Video transfer on alert

by cardiofuse » Mon Mar 25, 2013 7:25 pm

Heading towards using BlueIris since it sends a 10 second video/audio clip to email address on alert. REALLY a handy feature to get the how picture of video surveillance.

Comments?

Thanks for the suggestion. VDV currently supports sending clips to FTP when matching a rule, but does not support creating a low-res emailable clip as you have noted. If you have an iPhone a forum user recently posted an iOS remote viewer which might be of interest to you: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9933

I have experimented doing this another way, and so far so good, I can go into more detail if someone else is interested but the rundown is...

- Configure VDV to send the clip via FTP
- FTP server is actually run by IIS on the same server (or it could be a different server, doesn't really matter)
- WatchNRun waits for a new file to be created in that FTP directory, when it's found, it uses a command-line email program to send me an email with a link to the video
- IIS is also serving that same FTP directory as HTTP (website), so that when I get the link in the email I can click on it and my phone streams/downloads it and plays it. I find this is better/safer than having the video as an attachment to the email (spam/size restriction issues)
