Like many of us - I think that VitaminD is an exceptional concept. It's dramatically superior to many of the surveillance monitoring systems available for home users, and comparable to even mid-tier commercial systems.
HOWEVER, its user interface is a little clunky, and it's hard to interact with videos remotely.
To that end, I've spent the last year (I have a fairly intensive day job also) writing mobile clients for iPhone and iPad. These clients also interact with a cloud service I've written to support viewing of VitaminD video anywhere there's an internet connection (i.e. not just on your home network), together with a centralised system for viewing alerts, and receiving push notifications when they happen. It supports multiple locations from within a single app (e.g. home and vacation home).
The VitaminD server doesn't natively provide support for remote interaction, nor many of the functions needed to provide the above functionality. As such, I had to write a native application that runs on the host computer that provides interaction with my cloud service, and deals with the content processing and various other tasks needed to support the iOS applications. This overall project was much more involved than I'd expected it to be!
As a Mac programmer, this means that my first version will only support users running VitaminD on a Mac. If there's enough interest, it may be financially viable to get this component written to work on Windows too.
SO - questions for anyone reading this!
1. Would you be interested in this overall solution? (iOS viewing / alerts / anywhere access)
2. Are you using Mac or Windows?
3. If a Mac user, are you open to beta-testing this solution once I'm ready (hopefully only a matter of weeks at this point!)
I'm looking forward to helping sustain the ecosystem of an incredibly powerful, but sadly under-appreciated, application.
