processing video

by falcon999 » Fri Feb 15, 2013 9:39 pm

is it possible to feed vitamin d a video file and have it spit out the relevant portions. someone dropped something off on my door, but I have no idea in the last 2 days when it was. I forgot to have the vitamin d server on, because I'm trying to get it to monitor 14 cameras and power went out upstairs. My dvr continued to record after the power came back up. so I have a .mp4 file that holds 48 hours of video. whew I was trying to watch it in fast forward, but it's ridiculous.

so is there a way to feed it into my video d engine and have it spit out the interesting parts?

PS. yes I have the unlimited camera's version, but I have no idea if this can be done,

Hi falcon999,

VDV will not stream from a file natively, but you can use other software to stream the video file and set up Vitamin D to read from that. I don't have any suggestions offhand, though I *think* I've done this with VLC before.

If you have 48 hours of video to stream in, it will take 48 hours to do it, unless you have a way to speed up the DVR in playback mode without introducing artifacts that VDV might interpret as motion. (I know my VCR would certainly make a muddle of that!)

But waiting 2 days to get the video into VDV's database to let it do the 'looking' certainly beats staring at the DVR display for 48 hours looking for something yourself!

yeah i didn't think about that, well it's better than nothing... maybe i can break the file into 10 parts and then stream them all at the same time.

sucks up a lot of cpu time, but could substantially speed it up.
