Forgot to try one other thing:

I watched the CPU value for the "VitaminD Video.exe*32" process and it was at 1 percent, until clicked on it to make it the active window, then it very temporarily jumped all the way to 2 percent and went back to 1 percent.

I then minimized it and it dropped to 0 percent.

Restoring it just took it back to 1 percent.

I think the 2 percent value just happened to be at a point where it was busyier than usual and making it the active window was just enough to push the count over to round up to 2, but when I restored it, it was so "unbusy" that the extra work to make it active was not enough to round beyond the normal 1 percent. All this stuff is being measured asyncrhronously and so lots of the variation is just due to that alone.

vit d agent.exe uses 113megs of memory each and about 6-11 cpu for 10 processes, or 10 occurances, which seems like a lot, but only 6 of them are using cpu,

now if i open the application video d video.exe adds another -14 cpu. plus all of the agents are still running.

other than that, sidebar.exe takes 2.. this is under windows 7 professional.

each of the videod agent.exe processes is what it taking up cpu and they are all evenly distributed...

logmein.exe uses 10, that's how i'm checking from work.

Okay... the 'Agent' processes are: One for each camera and 4 others. (I think I remember reading that the others are for FTP, Email and a couple of other things... Their CPU usage would only show when one of those things needs to be done.) The 'Video' process is the user interface.

So you are averaging 8 or 9 percent each for the 6 cameras. I'd expect them to be pretty much the same across the board since all your cameras at the same model. (Mine are all different, so my processes have different amounts of work to do.) Your 6 cameras account for 36 to 66 percent of the CPU usage. Now the question arises as to what that percentage really means in a mutil-core computer... If you have 4 cores, do you have 400 percent available? I guess not, if the sum of the numbers you reported is around 92 percent (close to the 100 you report seeing in the graphs).

Just musing here... the "Video" process being at 14 is high compared to my experience. That is why things improve when you minimize it. I wonder, are you accessing it remotely? You mention checking from work (via logmein) and I wonder if that is causing it to use more CPU time than mine does?

Your user interface ("VitaminD Video.exe) is the largest difference from my numbers and I guess it might be due to the capabilities of the video card. I still wonder if something is not enabled in it; Especially since the Windows Experience Index number for your system is so much better than mine (maybe the Index measures capabilities, but not what is actually enabled for use (???)).

What number shows for the "System Idle Process" on your computer?

ok well i think the problem may be that i remote in because now that I go up to this computer. It's tucked away in a guest bedroom, but since I was leaving it there, i decided to put vit d on it.

anyways point is, is that cpu on all 4 cores runs at 34 percent when vit d the application is minimized and you aren't remoting in, apparently it must be doing some serious cpu work when i am remotely logging in, but since I never tax the computer it now becomes evident.

interesting....

I think if i just switch out to having vit d ftp out the videos then this won't be an issue, but usually i don't come here except on the weekends and it's easier to just remote it. I have gigabit network throughout the house, so i can run at full color etc and it works fine, but apparently burns about 30 percent of the cpu doing that..

thanks for all of the diagnosticians in here, apparently dr. house has a new job :)

Falcon,

I was just going over this thread again and realized that I'd totally overlooked your comment about how you are using a Dahua dvr to supply RTSP streams to VDV. That sounds interesting. Which model of DVR did you get? Any stability issues between it and VDV?

no stability at all, it works great, I actually can stream pretty much all 16 channels and I still can run the iphone app that lets me look at the channels from remote, and I can still run the remote viewing software from my office.

I don't know how much it can send out but i have been able to stream all 16 channels at once to my ipad and also 8 or 9 to vit d all at the same time.

it's motion capture is nowhere near as good as vit d though, so I use vit d just for catching people and it does that very well,

I have 4 drives in it, but it holds up to 8 3tb drives and I believe I can record all 16 channels at d1, I think it was about 850, so not too bad on price.

i'm going to look though gmail so i don't have to walk all the way over to the unit to get the model number but it's a qvis. I found out about it on cctvforum.
