Video feed showing in setup, but not in "Monitor View"

by nubz » Mon Jun 18, 2012 7:18 am

Hi Guys.

After running Vitamin D on my desktop computer for a while, I decided to run the surveillance on my server instead.
So I uninstalled the software on my Desktop, and installed it on my server.
After doing this i can't connect my IP camera through Vitamin D. Well, the feed is showing fine in the "Test your camera connection", but not in the Monitor View.
When i connect to the camera through my browser, on my server it works, but in Vitamin D, it says: "Could not connect. We will keep trying...."

- My desktop and server are both running Windows 7
- Camera type: Vivotek IP8332
- All computers and the camera are connected through the same router.

Any tips on how to fix this?

Hi nubz,

That is incredibly strange. You always successfully see it when configuring, but it never connects after you've finished setup? That's incredibly odd. Are you connecting via IP or over UPnP? After you configure the camera (seeing the video in setup), add it and wait several minutes. At this point can you choose "report a bug" from the help menu? This will send us some logs that might help us diagnose what is going on.

Also please double check on your new computer that any firewall and virus scanning software has been configured to exempt VDV. (Ideally disable them completely while testing to be sure).

Hi ryan.

That's correct. I find it very odd as well. I'm connecting via IP.

I tried updating to the beta version after posting yesterday, but I still have the same problem.
The strangest thing is that it worked right after i installed VDV on my server, but after the first reboot, the problem occurred.

I'll check my firewall and virus scanning software. I'll even try DMZ'ing my camera and server for a very short while :)
If it doesn't help I'll "report a bug".

Thank you!

Solved!

My log showed a unicode conversion error. I had some Norwegian characters in my folder name, where my videos would be stored.
After changing the folder name and adding the camera again, I can see my video feed!

All rules working, and I have full control of my driveway again :)

Thanks!
