Vitamin eating memory?

by JohannesL » Thu Jun 14, 2012 12:30 am

Hi,

I'm running the Mac version in Mac mini. Two cameras are connected to Vitamin D. That is the only application, which is running together with Mac Os X Lion -server. When I track the memory usage via server statistics, I can see that it's all the time increasing. See attachment for the stats. WIthout VitaminD the memory usage is not increasing. Is it possible that Vitamin D is eating memory? Here is some background information:
- Two cameras connected. One via WiFi and the other one via Ethernet
- MPEG4 and MJPEG streamings are used
- 1.4.2 Pro edition

Johannes

Hi JohannesL,

Is the Jump from ~2gb to ~3.3gb when you started VDV, or are you trying to figure out if that is a leak in VDV? If you are instead referring to the areas before and after that midpoint and wondering if those upward slopes are a leak, they look perfectly normal to me. There are slopes up, but they are followed by drops, and the overall seems to be in a steady state. Additionally, general memory usage may grow over time from app launch, but more on the order of megs per process, not gigs, and it will not grow indefinitely.

If you're trying to figure something out you might want to run activity monitor and look at exactly what processes are running on your system and how much memory they are using, that would tell a lot more than this graph. You should see 4 Vitamin D Agent processes, + 1 for each camera, so 6 if you have two currently on and recording. You should also see a single Vitamin D Video process if the UI is currently open. Four of the Agent processes should be using relatively low amounts of memory, while the camera processes are likely in closer to the 150mb range. These memory ranges can vary for a number of reasons, but if they're way off something could be wrong.

Hi,

The jump came, when I was switching the cameras on and off again. I'm not sure, if the upward slopes are ok. They seems to increase a little per day for some reason. Attached is the situation today.

Hi again,

Here is also a list of memory usage for Vitamin processes.

Hi JohannesL,

This looks absolutely normal for a 2 camera setup. Vitamin D is using about 440mb memory across all of it's processes, of that your cameras are using about ~100 and ~125 each, well within the normal range. If you leave this running for several days or a week and check again these memory numbers on each process should be in the same range. If not we can certainly investigate.
