Email notification

by blob.hope » Thu Jan 31, 2013 1:46 am

First of all, love this software. Recommending it to everyone in my neighborhood watch.

The last few days, though, in the afternoon the email notifications stop being sent. The computer still records clips, the files are still sent to my FTP server, but it won't send email notifications until I restart my computer--then it starts sending them again... That's the only real concern I've had. (I use gmail, by the way and have filters set to NEVER send vitamin d emails to spam, always mark as important, etc.)

Thoughts? I'm out of town this weekend and would feel much better if I knew email notifications were working while I was gone.

Thanks,

Nick

Hi Nick,

I'm sorry you are having trouble, this does sound quite strange. You don't happen to be using a locally hosted smtp server do you? I assume you're using the standard gmail server however.

What sort of volume of notifications are typically being sent? If you don't restart the computer in the afternoon do they ever resume?

If you notice the machine not sending emails when you think it should be (you know a matching event or two just occurred) could you select "Report a problem..." from the "Help" menu? This will send us some log information that might help diagnose what is going on.

Thanks for getting back. I went ahead and sent in the "report a problem" about 10 minutes ago. Thanks for looking into it.

It's just a normal gmail account. I probably get between 30 and 120 emails depending on if I've messed with the camera or how the clouds move.

From what I can tell, once it stops sending emails it doesn't start again until I restart the computer.

But yes, I've been able to test that Vitamin D is in fact recognizing an event but I just never get the email.

Up until now it seemed to take a long time until it would stop sending emails, but just now when I sent the "report a problem" the computer had probably only been on for a half hour tops.

Thanks,

Nick

I'm having the same problem. It works the first time I set up a new camera and rule, then the next day: nothing.

The sound notification and ftp works but no emails are being sent.
Test email works also.

I experience this problem in the free edition as well, so I decided to upgrade.

Hi ivtecc,

I'm sorry that you're having trouble. It would be great if you could go to "Help->Report a Problem..." after the emails stop sending (be sure to include your email so we can get back to you!). This will send us some logs that might give us some insight into what is going on. In the meantime, what service are you sending from/to?

Hey Ryan,

Apparently the FTP was not working either. I'm using gmail & for FTP my own personal VPS server.

I guess it wasent sending out because I had 21 videos in my FTP status that stalled. Once I cleared that out and restarted it worked.

I'll see how it goes tomorrow.

I also sent this report in.

Problem: Not uploading to FTP or emailing.

Steps to recreate the problem: IDK

Expected results: Clear FTP Queue and Restart

Actual results: You guys should make a log and display errors if ftps stalls or emails cant be sent
