Vitamin D external functionality?

by mdwarner » Wed Mar 28, 2012 10:04 pm

I purchased the Vitamind D and it’s working thus far via the UI in my testing. I’m trying to investigate whether there are more “advanced” features that I would like to take advantage of. I’ve searched the forums and found references to people requesting similar features, but most of those posts are over a year old, so I’m not sure what may have changed since then.

Primarily, what I’m wondering is whether it’s possible to access Vitamin D’s controls via a command line or some other messaging style system. Basically my quandary is that my video system requires that the camera output first go through a reencoding process due to other uses of the system. From there, I can send out an RTSP stream that Vitamin D can read. I already have a UI set up for my existing system, and I would like to be able to add cameras and rules from that UI. Due to the nature of it, I can’t always guarantee that certain videos will always be on the same output so I would like to be able to dynamically add the video to Vitamin D when I start my current stream, and then also apply the rules.

A bit detailed but I wanted to make sure my situation was clear. If there’s any way other than the UI to interact with the VD service I feel I could probably make my grand design work. So do any such type controls exist?

Hi mdwarner,

Unfortunately adding rules and cameras isn't part of an exposed API at the moment. If you'd like to shoot me a private message detailing more of what you'd like to do I'll see if I have any ideas to help you out.
