Windows 8 compatible?

by bwood15 » Wed Jan 23, 2013 11:09 pm

Hi Ryan,

Can you tell me (or anyone else) if Vitamin D is compatible with Windows 8? I'm preparing to do the upgrade on my desktop which runs Vitamin D and want to make certain before I go through with it!

Thanks

While I personally don't have a win8 machine, we do have have a number of users running on Windows 8 without trouble. All "windows 8" related bugs we've received have thus far turned out to be normal OS or initial setup problems: virus scanner, security settings, machine set to go to sleep, etc...

Ryan, thanks. You were correct. I upgraded last night from 7 to 8 and everything is working just dandy.

I just purchased a Toshiba laptop running Windows 8. I installed Vitamin D video, but it will not run. Using the Task management function it showed the program being 'nonresponsive". I tried to run it again and nothing happens.

Any ideas?

Hi Riverrat,

Are you running any antivirus/security/firewall type software? If so please either temporarily disable it and try re-launching VDV or ensure that you have added exceptions for VDV. If this doesn't help can you please zip/archive the VDV logs folder and email it to me, ryan@vitamindvideo? The directory can be found at:

C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\Vitamin D Video\logs

Thanks,
- ryan

I would like to upgrade to new computer (win8).

What Files do I need to transfer to new Computer without entering all setup information again?

Thank you

Hi Bigmack,

Assuming you're coming from Vista or higher your data folder will be at: C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\Vitamin D Video (which I'll call [VDV] for the rest of the post).

If you run VDV once and then quit on the new machine it will set up this directory structure as well. For camera settings the files you would care about are [VDV]/camdb and [VDV]/rules/*. Those are your camera settings and your rules, respectively. If you replace those on the new machine with the files from the old (while you are sure no processes are running on the new machine) you should have all of your old cameras and rules ready to go.

Hope that helps,
- ryan
