I know this thread has been running for quite a while but I thought I would add my tuppence' worth...
Vitamin D is a SUPERB product BUT:
1. It falls way short of today's expectations for suitable iPhone or Android app functionality. People want to be notified instantly (eg. push message to their mobile device) if certain VDV rules are triggered.
2. The user interface is clunky and awkward. The inability to stretch the video or go full screen is annoying.
3. The price model is all wrong. OK, offer a free (very) basic version but then offer up to 4, 8,16 and enterprise wide camera licensing at more competitive rates. 199 dollars is too expensive for your average home owner who I'm guessing will typically have around 4 cameras. The price tag put me off using VDV on my own install, instead opting for a similar system already installed on it's own form factor (AlienDVR). This pained me as I really wanted to use VDV.
4. And on that point of form factors, why not consider selling pre-installed network video recorders as all in one systems? VDV could be such a great brand in its own right, selling similar bundled packages like Swann and other companies do.
