I was using "Other Axis device" along with this custom URL: http://[device_IP]/mjpg/quad/video.mjpg
...to record all 4 analog cameras connected to a Axis 241Q device as 1 "camera" in VDV.
From the VDV software it worked, and detected motion/people in any of the 4 quadrants.
I had Qty. 4 of these Axis 241Q devices added to this one server in this manner, so technically 16 cameras, but it looked like VDV was only connecting to 4. I did it this way because *I thought* I was being clever in conserving system resources and bandwidth to the video encoders (1 stream as opposed to 4)
...had numerous random lockup (machine perfectly frozen) reboots, etc. Sometimes as short as a day later, sometimes 4 or 5 days later. This was an i3 machine with 4GB RAM and Win7 32bit. I suspected the machine or network was at fault so I replaced both the machine and switch with new hardware.
Setup everything the same way (custom URL for quad stream) but the new machine specs are...
HP Elite 8300 SFF i7 3.40Ghz
8GB RAM
Win7 64bit
500GB HDD
(this 'server' is dedicated to VDV and nothing else)
...was getting the same lockup problem
Decided to try setting it up the "right way" where each camera was set to use "Axis 241Q - port 1" - port 2, and so on, so VDV actually see's 16 cameras.
...this works great. I am an idiot, and just want to save other people from this headache.
Proof that VDV can easily handle 16 cameras on this one system...
