Stop recording Temporary Videos?

by bwood15 » Fri Jan 04, 2013 1:05 pm

I just purchased the Pro version of Vitamin D last night but I can't seem to find a way to stop the recording of all of the "Temporary video (not saved by rule)" recordings! My cams point to a busy street and I created rules to avoid the vehicles, yet the software is still recording these "temporary" events and using a huge amount of disk space in the process! How do I get it to record ONLY the events I've created rules for?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hiya bwood,

This section of the reference guide might help:
http://www.vitamindinc.com/support/ref_ ... tions.html

That video is in the cache period for the value you have set - after the cache duration expires it will be deleted and only the video matching rules with the save response will persist. Hope that helps, let me know if you have further questions or requests.

If you are concerned with the long list in the View mode showing all the motion clips (rule and non-rule) then you can reduce that to just the rule-saved clips by selecting which rule in the "Look For:" list. This will limit the list to only those videos that match the rule.

If you have multiple cameras, you will have to view the list for each rule for each camera... i.e.: suppose you have 2 cameras and one has 1 rule and the other has 2, then you will have to select each rule in turn and review the list 3 seperate times.

I have 5 cameras and 3 have a small view of a moderately busy residential street, so every car that passes gets recorded three times (and sometimes 4, if the camera that faces my front porch window happens to detect the reflection of the car in the window of the door!), so my list from "Any camera" will show 600 to 800 (or more) clips per day and only 3 to 6 will be of someone walking across my yard, approaching my porch (meter readers or the mailman). Clicking on my "Person on property" rules for each camera will show just those 1 or 2 clips per camera.
