IO

by brutus » Tue Nov 02, 2010 12:28 am

I have an Axis 241Q that I use for encoding my cameras into MP4 IP, and it has 4 input and 4 output connections.

It would be awesome to have this feature integrated with Vitamin D.

I would love to use, for Ex and external motion detector, and when it trips have VDV flag it as a rule.

ie.
Rule:
If Axis.Input1 activated -> save clip to PC. Flag clip and record for duration of input + 30 seconds.

The output potential could also be used.

Rule:
If motion detected in My region, save clip to PC and activate Axis.Output1 for 5 seconds.

Not sure how much of that is possible, but I think a lot of these cameras are coming with IO interfaces and it would be sweet to integrate into one app.

brutus,

You can do half of this at the moment, though it's a bit hacky. Specifically, you can use the "external command" response in the paid editions to run an external program that trips one of the Axis outputs.

The easiest external command to do something like this is "curl", which is a generic program to access web URLs. This is installed by default on the Mac and can be installed on Windows as well. Unfortunately, there's a bug in Vitamin D that causes some problems w/ external commands on Windows, but you can see some workarounds in this thread in our old forums:
https://vitamind.fogbugz.com/default.asp?video.1.699.2

If using CURL, you'd need to specify the exact right command to the Axis cameras. I think that the command depends a little on the camera and the configuration. It's something maybe like this:
curl 'http://user:pass@yourCameraHost/axis-cgi/io/output.cgi?action=1:/'
...where you replace user, pass, and yourCameraHost with the appropriate things for your camera.

You'd have to look here for details:
http://www.axis.com/techsup/cam_servers/dev/index.htm

Good luck! Let us know if you have any success...
