Billh210,
You say that it still "records" things that aren't matched by the rule. You should be aware that Vitamin D records _all_ video for a period of time (2 days by default). After that, Vitamin D Video will clean up any video that is not marked for saving. Thus, you will have all video for the last two days and then only "saved" video after that.
What does this mean? It means that if you search for "all objects" or "people", you'll find video from the last two days that includes things that were not saved by your rule. This is expected. You should also see a tag in your search results indicating that the video wasn't marked for permanent saving. Instead, try searching using the rule you created.
Generally, we suggest people leave the "record all objects" alone and then create additional rules for searching. That gives you the most flexibility.

Now, if you're trying to debug why your search isn't matching what you expect...
Here's a link to the reference guide that might help: <http://www.vitamindvideo.com/support/ref_guide_tips_20.html>. It explains how rules work and gives some tips on debugging (you can turn on a mode where the region will be shown in the search results and also the relevant points (some triggers care about the centers of objects and some about the center of the bottom of the object). This one might help too: <http://www.vitamindvideo.com/support/ref_guide_tips_19.html>
Good luck!
