Rule doesn't appear to be working

by madmodmud » Wed Sep 14, 2011 3:06 pm

I have been using vitamin d for 18 months reasonably successfully .. very happy with it.. but right now have some really hard to understand behaviour.

i wnat to monitor my balcony but there is street traffic visible ..previously i had shrubsd which blokced traffic from camera view .. i just removed shrubs .. created region that includes only deck surface and set rule to trigger only when something enters or exits region.

however, it completely ignores my region and rule and triggers with every passing car .. all movement is outside of my region and they do not enter or exit the region .. and certainly their center never does enter or exit region.

so what is going on here?? I have tried everything.. moving my region to tiny square on deck well away from balcony .. creating boundary, tried all rules but it always triggers with passing vehicles.

camera it is on inside of balcony glass door.. its a Linksys 932-L which i have been using

any ideas?

madmodmud,

Here's a link to the reference guide that might help: <http://www.vitamindvideo.com/support/ref_guide_tips_20.html>. It explains how rules work and gives some tips on debugging (you can turn on a mode where the region will be shown in the search results and also the relevant points (some triggers care about the centers of objects and some about the center of the bottom of the object). This one might help too: <http://www.vitamindvideo.com/support/ref_guide_tips_19.html>

A quick thought, though, is that you probably want "on top of" given the region you've drawn. That might not get every false positive out (remember that objects are always rectangles), but will probably get most of them. If you adjust your region a little bit (move it a little bit away from the edge of the balcony floor, you can probably get all of them.

Good luck!

-Doug
