Analyzing pre-recorded video

by Donone » Sun Jun 05, 2011 7:48 am

Can you please explain how pre-recorded video can be analysed, i.e. when no event is set and temporary video is captured.
In the event that it is possible...
Does the analysis take real time or can it be done at higher speed?
Can video from another camera not connected to DVD be analysed after the recording is made?
If so, what format should the recording be in and should it just be copied to the normal storage area?
Thanks

Hi Donone,

VDV does not support importing pre-recorded video, please see viewtopic.php?f=4&t=509 for a bit of information.

As someone mentioned there you could set up a stream of the video and add that to VDV as a 'camera', though it would process the video in real time, be associated with the date/time it was streamed to VDV, etc...

Thank you for that ryan.
Finally, is there a trial version? I am concerned with whether my old system, (hopefully to be given new life for this purpose), will cope with 2 cameras.

It has 1.5GB memory Semperon 2GHz processor and plenty of disk space. It could be run either with XP pro or Windows 7, I have dual boot and would welcome your suggestions as to which and whether it will cope.
Thanks.

Hi Donone,

If you install the program and don't provide a license you will be limited to a single camera at QVGA (320x240) resolution. There are a few other differences between that and the paid versions, please see http://vitamindvideo.com/store/pricing.php for full details.

This should give you enough information to determine if your machine will be sufficient, though I imagine for 2 cameras at QVGA it should be, especially if no other intensive (virus scan, etc..) programs are running. It will definitely help if your cameras are streaming at the resolution VDV is recording at (so it doesn't have to decode a bunch of extra bits) and if the frame rate is set down to 10fps if that is an option.

When running with one camera find the Vitamin D Agent process with the highest CPU usage, this will be the camera process. If you have that much free CPU space you should be able to run two of that camera without trouble.

Hope that helps,
- ryan
