USB cameras - only 2 will connect

by Anthony » Tue May 17, 2011 5:07 pm

I originally started with 3 USB cameras, all Microsoft LifeCam Cinema. I was able to connect two before getting "Could not connect" on the third. There was nothing wrong with the third camera. I was able to connect to it in lieu of one of the other cameras.

So I thought it might be a driver issue, since Windows would tell me the driver is already in use when I tried to open all three web cams outside of Vitamin D. I decided to purchase a Logitech c905 just so it would have a different driver altogether. The same result happened. I could use the new Logitech camera, but I had to sacrifice one of my two Microsoft web cams.

Any one else with this issue?

I am guessing this is from USB bandwidth being consumed. I checked each device and they both show 398% bandwidth used, 10% system reserved. Is the amount of bandwidth on a computer determined by the chipset? Anyone know what I could do to increase it?

Well, I got it working. I noticed that the front USB ports were using a different controller and plugged a camera into it and BAM it works!
