Help

by rezlindb » Mon Mar 28, 2011 5:27 pm

I have my vitamin D videos from multiple macs saved on a local server which has the videos of all the different vitamin d saves from each mac. So essentially, because they're all connected through a network, from any of the macs, I can view a recording from any other mac.

That's all great, however, all the files saved are only opened through quick-time. I'd like to open the vitamin D saved files from another mac as a vitamin d archive so I can scan through them quickly instead of having to open each piece one by one.

How can i do that?

Hi rezlindb,

This functionality is not supported by VDV. I wouldn't recommend trying either, as attempting to swap the proper config and database files between the machines for temporary viewing and then swapping back would be very easy to mess up and trigger data loss.

How can this work though? When I go to the archive I see various files, most of which did not even detect anything. Only in VitaminD can i see only the important clips which recorded some sort of movement based on my settings. In the archive, I wanna see only the videos which are the actual trigger to save the data. (I.E. some sort of movement)Almost all of the files in the archive are just saved recordings of the VitaminD software working at night where its pitch black. If one of the macs gets stolen for example, I want to be able to see the camera from the stolen mac's point of view. When I check the vitaminD saved clips through the software itself, I only see necessary clips where there is some movement etc. Since I can't open the archive videos from the server through VitaminD, the archive doesn't have only the clips with movement, but it has the WHOLE recording of the cameras. That would be highly inconvenient to go through regularly.

Is there a solution to this or did I miss something?

Hi rezlindb,

For insight into why sometimes you see long clips and sometimes you see shorter clips in the generated files, please see this post: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=449

If you want clips corresponding to a specific rule automatically named and uploaded to a target location I would suggest using the ftp response. Hope that helps!

Am I able to upload clips corresponding to a specific rules automatically through an AFP response in the Basic or Pro edition?

While afp is not currently directly supported, you could run an ftp server on the local machine whose storage directory was configured to point to the networked drive.
