How to prevent my cat from being a person?

by curiousCat » Sun Mar 06, 2011 3:13 am

I'm testing with the free version. I have to say I wish you had a free trial period for the paid versions too so I could really get a feel for all the extra options I would get if I bought the product.

I'm using Starter Edition 1.4.2.6168 and to ignore my feline friend I've set the rule editor to look for People and ignore objects smaller than 70 pixels. Brownie keeps triggering the camera though.

1. Is there a way to increase the ignore pixel box beyond 70 pixels?
2. 70 pixels is the length of any side of the box right? Not the only height or perimeter? It seems recording is triggered even when the yellow box is clearly small than 70 pixels (based on the green sample box shown when "show how tall this is" is selected)

Great product otherwise...very unique and intuitive to use.

It's a bit hard to give advice without knowing your exact scene setup. It sounds like perhaps the cat is able to get somewhat close to the camera, mounting it at a higher location might help. One reason the clips might trigger when the object seems to be less than the pixel height is that it will trigger if at any point the object was taller than that, even if it was just for a single frame. Doug, another engineer has several cats, so I might see if I can get him to chime in with cat-specific suggestions. :-)

curiousCat,

I don't have any great suggestions above Ryan's. I would suggest trying to talk to your cats and tell them that they're not people, but I'm afraid that won't work (trust me, I've tried). VDV is pretty good at telling people from inanimate objects like cars, but we couldn't get it to reliably tell people and cats apart without sacrificing on our ability to recognize people.

I'm afraid that you'll have to wait for the singularity to get a little closer. ;)

Ryan and Doug,
thanks for your responses. I think rebooting my computer did the trick. Setting the 70 pixel box didn't seem to have an effect but after the reboot there are no more cat shots. I assumed changing the box size would have had an immediate effect? Anyways thanks!
