More Cameras with Additional Memory?

by classicshotokan » Sun Jan 09, 2011 1:49 pm

The available cpu cycles seems to be the limiting factor in determining how many cameras you can run. More cores, more cameras.

I often read about how adding RAM can increase performance for CPU intensive tasks, such as video editing.

Would adding memory help VDV process more cameras without crashing?

Currently on a mac mini with 2 gb RAM. Running only two camera, if I add more I get crashes.

I believe if I recall previous messages your computer is somewhat dedicated to Vitamin D Video? 2gb should be more than enough for just VDV. As a rough approximation VDV uses ~100mb of memory + 100-150 per camera. Is the entire application crashing, or are camera processes restarting, or some other behavior? If it's possible to file a bug report from within the application the logs might provide us with better insight into what is going on.

The crash thread is here
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=168

It's an "agent" crash. It stops all actions/notifications.

That's too bad, I was hoping for an easy fix that doesn't involve a new computer.
