False alarms and lack of develoment

by barto » Wed Oct 24, 2012 5:15 pm

Everything thinks its a person!

(Lights reflecting off cars an all sorts. )

The "about us" says " We are committed to supporting and maintaining the Vitamin D Video application for interested customers everywhere."

I am a paid up customer and nothing has changed in years apart from many people asking for features.

I also would like to be emailed video.

Also if a "person" appears randomly in shot/jumps about/ changes sizes rapidly - it isn't a person!

Hi Barto,

I'm sorry you're having detection trouble. Several of our help pages have suggestions on how to achieve the best recognition, such as http://www.vitamindinc.com/support/ref_ ... ps_18.html. If nothing there helps feel free to post more details about your camera and setup (and maybe a few images of the scene too) and we can help troubleshoot. If you'd rather not post that info publicly, feel free to private message me here or email the info to me, ryan@thisdomain.

Ryan,

Its been a few years now, and there has been no developments or updates.

Is anything in the pipeline? or is it purely support?

I still have the issues that when the sun pops out from behind the clouds it false triggers. I would love a tick box that basically meant it doesn't trigger if every pixel changes at once.

Love the app as I have done for years, really would love to see new features. (ios app to view the videos maybe?)

Hi Barto,

We're looking at ways to improve the intelligence of our tracking algorithms, including what you mention here. Unfortunately it's a very slow process that has to be carefully examined - every time you add something to "Ignore false positive X" you have to make sure that in some other camera position and scene that change doesn't make you miss real event Y. That being said, I'm confident we can get there.

Cars driving by and reflecting on your car in your driveway typically only last for a few seconds tops...If someone was up to no good near your care they would be there for a few minutes minimum. Why not set the detection time to something around 5-10 seconds and then you will have very few false positives? And even if something happened, the software would still record the person if they vandalized your car in 4 seconds, they would just be an unknown object and it would take you slightly longer to find it on your video feed. Even if I have 20 false positives, it is so easy to scroll through the "highlight reel" at the end of the day to see who was in my driveway.
