Using VDV with cattle

by johno » Mon Sep 24, 2012 12:24 pm

I'm considering using VDV, in conjunction with cameras in areas around my barn. While I hope to aim some cameras in areas where animals don't normally travel, I'm wondering if anyone has experience in whether the software will be able to detect the difference between cattle or cows, and people?
Thanks!

Hi Johno,

Animals should not be detected as people. We don't have personal experience with cows, but it has been tested with other animals such as deer, and extensively with pets such as cats.

Things should be fairly reliable, the biggest problem we've had is with animals walking straight toward the camera (they can look somewhat personlike, vertical, appear to have two legs) but I would guess cows may exhibit this less? Will absolutely be better than standard motion detection algorithms at least.

Hope that helps,
