Interference with 2.4 ghz cordless phone

by jersimm » Sat Dec 18, 2010 12:34 pm

When my 2.4 ghz cordless phone is turned on there is a lot of white bars, etc. in video. Obviously the devices are competing with one another. Is there anything I can do?

You could try moving the Base Station for your cordless phone to another power outlet / phone plug which is farther away from your computer / camera / router.

And if that fails and you don't mind spending a few extra bucks, you can always upgrade to a 5GHz cordless phone which should solve the problem.

Good luck.

Joe.

...another thing to try is to see if you can change the channels on either the phone or the WiFi. Many WiFi routers default to "automatic" for channel selection. You can try forcing things to 1, 6, or 11 (the three most separate channels) to see if that makes anything better.

If none of that helps, then Joe is right: you should either buy a different phone or a different router. I certainly had much better luck with the DECT 6.0 cordless phones. I don't believe that they conflict with WiFi.
