Question on licensing

by djheini » Sun Dec 12, 2010 1:50 pm

Hi,

I've been using the starter edition to try out the software, and so far I like what I've seen and am planning on upgrading to a paid version, but I had a question about the paid license. I'm currently running the app on my windows desktop, but sometime in the not-too-distant future I will probably want to run it on my MacBook instead. Will it be a problem to use the license on a Windows PC, and then move it to a Mac later? I was also wondering if the license is sold on a "per-user" or "per-machine" basis?

Thanks!

djheini,

There's no problem moving the license between your computers, even between Mac and Windows. NOTE: Transferring old data between computers is a little trickier. It is possible, but requires you to delete one of the preference files and put the files in exactly the right place. If you're planning on doing this, let me know and I'll try to dig up some instructions (or write them up for you).

Licenses are "per machine". ...that means that if you have two computers running Vitamin D Video at the same time, you should have two licenses. The "unlimited" (AKA pro) license for VDV is "as many cameras that you can run on one computer". If you need to run on two computers (either you have a ton of cameras or you have cameras in more than one site), you should buy more than one license.

Glad you're liking Vitamin D Video! :)

Hi,

I'd like to move Vitamin D from the current PC to a dedicated one. So just want to check I do it right. If I uninstall from the current PC then install on new one and follow the activation instructions and use the same code is that OK? I don't want to be flagged as trying to pirate it or anything. I don't need to move existing data.

Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,

Yup, that's a great way to do it. You shouldn't have any trouble, but let us know if you do.

Thanks,
