Ryan,
I'm in Menlo Park too - it's expensive here! If you're the only person doing development on this software I definitely feel for you. I'd love to buy the pro version and support your cause however without being able to record audio or inbound video from a remote computer running a webcam (as at least TWO OTHER software solutions I've found do; one is completely FREE) I simply CANNOT plunk down $200 for this product. It's a shame too because the motion detection PLUS the ease of sorting through the video is really the best thing Vitamin D offers. Obviously the choice not to include audio was done early on, and from what I've read it seems to have been done to comply with laws in some areas. Unfortunately this was a terrible decision. If a person uses hardware/software illegally in their jurisdiction the onus is on THEM, not the manufacturer. There are FAR MORE areas where audio + video are both useful AND LEGAL.
Also, not having a time/date stamp included is flat out strange. If the purpose of this software is to monitor activity it's only natural to know that it may need to be used in court as evidence. Unfortunately without a time/date stamp it's validity is minimal in the eyes of any court (and rightfully so).
If you enable just these FEW features below, I'd gladly hand over $300:
1. Audio recording
2. Importing/recording of secondary streams from other sources such as a webcam running on an external computer
3. Date/Time stamp
I wrote in these forums (and an email to support) well over 3 years ago about the audio issue and still here we are with nothing futher. The FREE software I mentioned above has ONE GUY running the show and he makes a full living off of donations, ads, etc. and the software is far better in EVERY SINGLE WAY except the post-video review. Come 'on man! What are you waiting for!?
