Questions

by xper » Mon Sep 03, 2012 2:13 am

Hi,

I'm currently using webcamxp for my camera needs but I've been impressed with the youtube videos of vitamind. Anyway I have a few questions before I buy:

1) Since vitamind does not provide a webserver I will be using both vitamind and webcamxp on the same machine. Is anyone else doing this? and is there a better way? (the webserver is mainly for mobile access).

2) Is it possible to "upgrade" to the pro edition? Like if I bought the basic edition now and later wanted the pro edition, would I only have to pay the difference? I have 3 cameras but I'll change set up to 2 and see how it goes. The reason being I'm not willing to pay $150 more right now for one extra camera :p (from 2 camera's to unlimited is a really crazy leap btw).

Thanks for any answers.

I'm not sure about using both VDV and WebCamXP in the way that you suggest, but you are correct about the pricing. If you purchase the Basic edition now for $50 you can upgrade to the Pro edition later for the difference in price ($150). Information about that is at the bottom of this page: http://vitamindvideo.com/store/pricing.php

One thing you can do is download the free version and see if it works with WebCamXP the way that you're hoping. When I purchased the Basic version all I had to do was put a code into the free version that unlocked the additional features.

Then be sure to come back here and report your results, good or bad!

Thanks for the reply Doc.

Ok, well I purchased the 2 camera version and am currently using it fine with webcamxp.

The webserver job is handled by webcamxp and vitd connects to each camera using the network cam option (rather than connecting directly - because Windows does not allow usb access to more than one app).

It's been running well for a few days now. I just need to sort out a way to save only clips in a certain area to a different directory, so that they can be uploaded to dropbox without uploading all clips in the video directory. I have made a new rule/filter for that area but the only option is to save the clip in the same directory as all the other clips :s
I will update again once I've sorted it out.

Great application btw, it runs better than other applications I've used in the past, not to mention being simpler and more fun (the detection of just people is awesome and has been about 99% accurate so far). I will certainly be recommending vitd, and look forward to any updates in the future!

Hey xper,

Glad you're enjoying things so far! A current workaround for saving specific clips to a directory is to run a local ftp server with the root at the target directory and use the ftp response on the rules whose clips you want placed in that directory.

Hope that helps,

That worked perfectly Ryan. Thanks!
I had to drop the resolution slightly to make it viable for mobile devices, but everything seems to be running smoothly.
