Spam/bot entries

by DrBunsen » Sat Sep 01, 2012 10:00 pm

Good evening Ryan!

It looks as though the spam/bot entries are getting worse. We all REALLY appreciate how you clean them out, but I worry that while those entries are there the possible customers that come along would get a bad impression. Are there any plans to increase security? Some boards have mechanisms that don't allow newbies to immediately allow to post (initial posts have to be approved by an administrator).

If you need any help with this stuff I, along with others I'm sure, would be willing to help!

Yeah, these idiots drive me to distraction. I have been flagging these to the moderators (via the little triangle with the red exclamation mark (!) in it) as I run across them. But it seems the moderators don't check their e-mail often enough to get on-line to kill them as quickly as they are created.

I have been on many different forae and it sure seems this "phpBB" brand of forum software seems to attract the idiots more than any other. I know of one board that just gave up and shut down rather than have to deal with them.

I am on-line every day and check this forum often, so I too have volunteered to help moderate the board, but never heard anything back.

Sorry guys. The anti-spam guards I had set up broke and I've been on the road so cleaning up has been a bit slow (extra slow because I only have my phone). I flipped the switch to require my approval for new accounts, I'll look into switching back to nicer spam measures when I get home.

Ryan,

Like Semper Vaporo, I'm on here almost every day. Hopefully turning on moderator approval for newbies will take care of it. If not, let us know if there's anything we can do to help.
