No longer able to launch application

by boxingclever » Sun Dec 15, 2019 5:41 am

Hi,
I haven't been able to launch the application for sometime now, at least a month. App is totally unresponsive when I double click the Sighthound icon. Task manager shows about 6 or 7 instances running, have tried ending all tasks and restarting but the issue still remains. Although, after doing that I sometimes get a message that issues were detected on my last attempted launch and to send a bug report but even that doesn't seem to work, and I get the 'just a moment' window that never ends, and ultimately end up having to force quit. Rebooting has no effect, I've also uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I'm running windows 10.

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues starting up Sighthound Video. I would suggest doing a completely fresh install. TO do that, you will need to delete the Sighthound Video folder completely. You can find where all of this data is stored from the link below:

https://www.sighthound.com/support/wher ... store-data

Since you are running on a Windows machine, you will need to delete this folder:

C:\ProgramData\Sighthound Video\
or
C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\Sighthound Video\

Please give that a try and if it still fails, please email support at support@sighthound.com so we can diagnose further, thank you!

Actually, may of spoken too soon - the same issue has returned.. Will just use my cloud cams for now since I'm not prepared to delete folders everytime.

I am also experiencing this same behavior:

OS Windows 10
Installed on two different machines

Same behavior. After a few days/weeks sighthound video application refuses to start. On occasion it will suddenly work, then after a reboot it won't again.

Suggesting I reinstall and setup everything again is unreasonable. I've did that on the first machine, tried another machine, experience the same behavior.

Other issues include camera view superimposed on app when switching to grid view.

Your Mac OS version works much better. Windows version needs a lot of help.

I also have the issue, where the camera view is super-imposed on the grid view...when switching from one to the other. Tech support suggested that it was due to my video card, which is an Nvidia card (about 5 years old) with current driver. I disagree and believe it's a problem with their Windows/PC application and hope it gets resolved.

This version 6 is a step backwards in many ways, as compared to version 5. Especially when it comes to people/vehicle detection at night. Hope it gets better soon.

Yeah I call BS on it being a video card issue.

Computer #1: Intel HD graphics in Core i5 cpu
Computer #2: AMD Radeon graphics card AMD Ryzen cpu

Same behavior with both issues, not starting, video overlay when changing views.

Same issue running on OSX on Mac mini 6 core + 64GB ram. I've also had a try on different machines with same issue using SH6. I've reverted back to 5.17 which is much more stable...

I have the same issue I have 11 cameras on windows 10 and when I swap to grid view one camera overlaps the others and makes the feature unusable. Also I'm sending many clips of night detection errors and not hearing anything back. Why send the clips in if there is no response and update to improve the night vision.

I think at this point I may just dump Sighthound for BlueIris. I payed a lot of money for Sighthound Video but have an expired support contract. $50 to get email support or $60 for an entire application that actually works. I only chose Sighthound because of Mac OS support but now I am not bound by that limitation. The vehicle/person/animal detection isn't worth it if I can't even view my cameras. There's 10 processes running and excessive cpu usage in Sighthound vs the competitions limited resource usage. I get why (object detection) but I guess the novelty just isn't paying off. I'm sure this post will get deleted but I am frustrated with the decline of this product. If support won't reach out and help via this forum then Sighthound isn't showing it cares about the integrity of its product.
