wyze Cameras

by NoDTMF » Sun Dec 01, 2019 2:30 pm

Hi,

Wyze cameras are 20 bucks and are quite amazing.

They support RTSP, but seemingly not in a form SightHound accepts (VLC works)

The string the wyze camera wants is in the form of this:

rtsp://loginID:Password@IPAddress/live
(ie rtsp://rtspcam:[email protected]/live)

I can't' figure out how to get that into Sighthound.

Any ideas?

You can install alternate firmware, provided by Wyze, to support RTSP.
It works fairly well.
Here is a link to instructions:
https://support.wyzecam.com/hc/en-us/articles/360026245231-Wyze-Cam-RTSP

P.S. It does not work for V1[the original model], only V2, and Wyze Cam Pan.

Yes that is what I did and I posted the RTSP string above. Are you saying you got it to work with Sighthound?

Here's how to get it setup:

Screenshot below. You do have to have the Special RTSP firmware setup on your Wyze Camera per Wyze cam instructions.

Just fill in your Ip, Username and password, like below and it will pop up.

Now I have had issues with the cameras disconnecting after a while, and sighthound just says "Unable to Connect to Camera" and the only way to get it back is to log into the Wyze app, then the specific camera, then turn RTSP "off" then back "on". Its weird. I'm trying again with the newer update to see how well it might work now.....

Hope this helps.

I have the same issue.
I wish we could select UDP rather than RTSP in Sighthound. That seems to help a lot in iSpy... I still get disconnects in iSpy, but most of the time they quickly recovery when I use UDP rather than RTSP.

Using these instructions I was able to get my Wyze Pan Cam connected. Thanks!

Maybe one day there will be support in Sighthound for Pan Tilt and Zoom capabilities. For now though I have a low cost indoor solution that works nicely in addition to the Wyze app.
