any doorbell camera that you can access the RTSP address, should work fine with sighthound

Checking briefly into Doorbell, it does seem as if you are able to access the RTSP stream from that camera. This should allow you to connect it to Sighthound Video. However, since we have not worked with this camera in-house, it might be a good idea to contact their support to confirm that they do not block third-party applications from access the video stream.

Good point. The camera is rather pricey so I have been looking for other options. One that came up is the dbell from https://www.dbell.ca.

Any experience or thoughts on the dbell?

It checks off all the wants (specifically Ethernet hardwire with PoE) that I have so I am thinking that I will buy it and try it. If it does not work it still has a great offering to bridge with.

Hey Peter,

It does look like that camera does support RTSP and Onvif which is what Sighthound would need. If you do end up purchasing this camera, please don't hesitate to contact support if you need help setting it up within Sighthound Video.

Just wanted to add my experience to this post.

Based on this thread, I purchased the dbell HD Live Doorbell Camera via Home Depot. They just released a new App, so there was some confusion while following their installation instructions. However, I was able to install the camera, sync it with the smartphone app, and can monitor it via the app or via RTSP.

The doorbell does ring the phone, and records the video. PHysically, the doorbell feels very nice and professionally made. Has optional IR. And includes a 30 degree offset if you don't want the camera looking straight ahead.

HOWEVER, I can't seem to get it to work with Sighthound Video. The Dbell will be my second network camera, so I have experience setting one up. I can access the Dbell RTSP stream using VLC from the same PC running Sighthound, and using the same RTSP path I specify to Sighthound.

I'll probably open a ticket with Sighthound if I can't work it out.

I have the DBell HD as well and have tried in the past to get it recognized by SightHound, with no success. I have not spent endless time trying and I have not reached out to DBell for any support. Sounds like time for me to see what the issue is with connecting.

Maybe the new app will help. I had wanted to assign a dedicated IP address to the camera but the old app was not helping make that happen. I felt like the camera simply was not responding to configuration edits. It gave me the impression that the DBell was the problem and not SightHound.

I should note that I have three Lorex and 2 TrendNet cameras connected to SightHound via IP. All cameras are powered over IP which is the way the DBell is also powered (one of the primary reasons for me to select the DBell).

I just wanted to chime in that I have had the Doorbird running in Sighthound for years with very little issue. I bought it because it was the only doorbell camera that had a separate video feed that would be compatible.

The rtsp stream URL us just: "rtsp://IP/mpeg/media.amp"
You do need to use the proper login info, one log in per stream, setup in their app. Audio isn't supported. And other than the cameras being 720p they work fine.
