Data corruption error

by billkater » Fri Apr 20, 2018 5:14 pm

In the last 3 or 4 weeks I keep getting a "Data corruption error". My system has been running for a few years with no problem as is. Hard drive problem? I have scanned the drive for errors and it seems fine.

I have attached pictures of the error, about screen for program, drive info, and my storage configs. I place all video on drive D:. But even drive C: fills up with temp video.

Thanks

Bill

By the looks of your screenshot, it appears to me that both of your hard drives are (for all practical purposes) absolutely full. You might try opening up some hard drive space (on both drives) and see how things perform.

On my system, I utilize a dedicated internal hard drive, just for Sighthound video. Makes it easier to manage and allows me to maintain a certain level of room on the hard drive for things to work properly. I chose a WD Purple 4TB Surveillance Hard Disk Drive, as the frequent read/write activity will burn up a traditional mechanical hard drive in short order.

Also, make sure to set the "Options>Storage>For clips and temporary video, use up to: " setting properly within Sighthound. I've got mine set to 3300 GB, so that I always leave about 700 GB of empty HD space on my 4 TB (4000 GB) HD. The amount of empty space you leave is up to you, but 15% is a good rule of thumb for mechanical hard drives. This applies to your C: drive as well.

Good luck getting your issue resolved!

I also have a dedicated drive for Sighthound. I have a 250GB SSD drive (C)for the operating system. And a WD Purple 2T drive (D) for storage. Since this problem has started I have formatted my storage drive (D) multiple times to clear all data on it. I have also had to go into C:\Users\Bill\AppData\Local\Sighthound Video\videos\tmp\ and clear all the tmp video. After clearing the temp video I end up with 150GB or so free space on C drive.

I just seems that for some reason the program is not deleting video as it should, thus letting the drives fill up.

As of today I have upgraded to the newest version of Sighthound Video. I am also using Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostics to scan my storage drive for errors again. I hope this fixes my problem. I am also going to order a 4TB drive to replace the 2TB storage drive when I find a deal on one.

Thanks for the help

Bill
