No remote monitoring setting available for android camer

by stepadou » Thu Mar 22, 2018 12:21 pm

Hello.

I have managed to set up an android camera streaming video by using the 'IP webcamera' app and also to view the streamed video through the Sighthound Video software locally on my computer. However, I have 2 problems:
1. There is no remote monitoring option on the Sighthound Video software, so that I can enable it (there is no such tab in the Options menu). I have of course set port forwarding on my router, so that shouldn't be a problem.
2. Although I can view the streamed video on my computer (by using the local IP address while being connected over the local wi-fi), I cannot monitor this video from my iphone (again by using the local IP address while being connected over the local wi-fi).

Any ideas about how to solve the problem?

I thank you very much,
Stella

Hello Stella,

I will answer your questions inline below:

1. There is no remote monitoring option on the Sighthound Video software, so that I can enable it (there is no such tab in the Options menu). I have of course set port forwarding on my router, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Sighthound does have remote access. There is a little setup which you can find instructions at the link below:

https://www.sighthound.com/support/how- ... ote-access

You will want to forward the port that you assign to Sighthound. Once you have done that, you can access Sighthound either through the browser or our mobile app accessing the external.IP:port that is assigned to Sighthound.

2. Although I can view the streamed video on my computer (by using the local IP address while being connected over the local wi-fi), I cannot monitor this video from my iphone (again by using the local IP address while being connected over the local wi-fi).
I would need to know what version of Sighthound you are running. It would be a good idea to try to access it from your phone and when it fails send in a bug report by clicking Help > Report a Problem from the machine running Sighthound. That will send us your logs and all relevant information that will help us diagnose this issue.

We will be standing by for the bug report, thank you!

Regards,
-Kevin

Hello again.

Thanks for the quick reply!
1. That's exactly the problem I am facing: There is no 'Remote Access' tab under Options! Any ideas why?
2. I will do that.

Thank you.
Best,
Stella

Hello again.

Sorry for not replying with a bug report yesterday, but I cannot find where I can report the bug, as the problems appears while trying to log in on the iphone app of Sighthound Video. Here are the errors I get in detail:
- When I connect over the same wifi network of the camera (using the local IP), I get the error: 'Error Code: -1005, Description: Error connecting to the server: Network connection lost.
- When I connect over the public IP address (for which I have forwarded the corresponding port), I get the error: 'Unknown Error (404): The operation couldn't be completed. (HTTP error 404.)'.
- In both cases, I can view the streamed video on a web browser on my iphone. However, I always connect through the web interface of 'IP Webcam' rather than Sighthound.
- Additional info: This is the second camera I have used, but it is connected to a different Sighthound account, not mine. The first camera is working as it should, through the Sighthound app on my iphone, and I can also see the streamed video on a web browser through Sighthound. Do you think this is the problem (same IP with the first camera), as I am using the Starter Edition?

I thank you very much again!

Best wishes,
Stella

Hello,

Are you running the Starter License or have you purchased a license with us? The free Starter License does not have a remote access option which is why the Options attribute is not available for you. You can find more details on what you actually get with each license at the link below:

https://www.sighthound.com/support/what ... n-editions

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns concerning this, thank you!

Regards,
-Kevin
