Camera is creating clips for everything

by stumper66 » Wed Mar 14, 2018 12:35 pm

I have a camera that is pointing towards a busy road.
I only want it to create clips if someone pulling into my driveway. I modified the default rule in the "that are" section to Moving objects that are inside my region. I then defined the region to only include the driveway and exclude the road.
However all day long I see thousands of clips, one for each car that drives by.

How can I fix this?

Hello,

Did you create a new rule or adjust the one that was already there? If you did not remove or adjust the first rule that is created, then that might be the reason why you are seeing all of this activity since that rule will save the video when anything is moving anywhere in the camera.

What you described should work, however, without seeing where you placed the boundaries as well as seeing the traffic on the camera itself, it is hard to determine this issue. Perhaps try changing the rule to only be invoked when an object passes over a threshold. The other cars might be hitting the boundary box partially. The passing over a threshold might be able to fix that.

If you would like, you can send in a sample video to [email protected] and we can take a closer look. If you do that, you should include how you have the rules setup.

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns, thank you!

Regards,
-Kevin

When in "Search" mode, look at the right side list of clips... if the bottom line in each clip shows "Temporary video (Not saved by rule)", then that is not a clip that your rule created, it is just what it is described as. It will go away after the number of hours set "Tools/Options - Storage"... the default I think is 48 hours. Set that to 1 hours and they will go away faster and the list will appear much shorter, showing only the clips saved by rule for the whole day, and the clips not saved by rule in just the last hour.

Another way to reduce the size of the list is to select the rule in the "Look for" list box. Then you will not see any clips from any other camera or any other rule, nor any "not saved by rule" clips.
