Having major problems with video being marked as temporary

by garethcamp » Mon Nov 13, 2017 9:37 am

Recently I've been having major issues with the majority of my recorded video being marked as temporary.

To troubleshoot this I have taken everything back to square one and setup an all new installation with 1 camera configured to look for any object, anywhere and just save it (no ignore items smaller than, or notifications etc) as simple as you can get.

A car then drives past the camera on the front of my property and I walk up and down the driveway, all of this video gets marked as 'Temporary video (not saved by a rule)'!???

I am running the latest version of the product (5.1.3) and this renders this product useless for me. Please can Sighthound investigate and advise, looking around the rest of the forum it seems other users have complained about the over-zealous temporary video function.

I agree this is somewhat disconcerting, but I think it is by design!

When in Search mode, if you have not specifically selected a particular Rule to sort by, any video clip that has any portion that does not have motion that is defined by the rule is marked as 'Not saved by rule'. Even if a portion of it IS saved by rule. (OUCH!)

If you select a particular rule, then the list will only show those clips that were Saved by that rule and the text below it will disappear.

Personally, I consider this as sort of negative logic and would rather different text appear when ANY portion of the clip is Saved by Rule (e.g.: "A portion of this clip is saved by Rule.") and be blank when ALL of the clip is Not Saved by Rule.

With multiple cameras and rules, I have to select each rule, one at a time, and wait for the list to repopulate each time when I am reviewing a whole day's worth of video. I'd prefer to leave it set to show all cameras and all motion and go through the list just once.

I suppose that if there were very few "hits" then the list would populate quickly, but that is not always the case. Besides, I sometimes want to see what was happening on another camera at the time (or just before and/or just after) and that then requires selecting the other camera(s) and waiting again for the list to repopulate yet again.

Hi, thanks for your post. Unfortunately the issue is worse than that, whether I look against a rule in search or against all objects ALL video is showing as temporary. I have even just witnessed a van drive past my house, this video was initially saved without the temporary flag, approx. 30 mins later when I check it has now been marked as temporary!?

Another car has been marked as an unknown object and the video marked as temporary, but my rule is set to look for any object anywhere and save it, so why is this car not saved?

The postman also came to my front door, approaching the door he was recorded successfully, when he then returned back into line of sight of the camera and left the property that video was deemed temporary?

Hi garethcamp,

Indeed, this is a regression introduced in 5.1.1, and it will be addressed in the next point update within the next couple of days.

Best,
- Alex

What happens with the videos taken while regression bug was active? will 5.1.4 mark them correctly based on active rules or they will be removed in 48 hours default settings?

Leon,

Unfortunately, there is no way to retroactively mark those clips as non-cache.

Having this issue as well and running 5.1.5. The files are saved by the rule to the specified folder, but Sighthound still marks the clip as "Temporary video (not saved by a rule).

jpluttme,

Please open a ticket via Help -> Report a problem. Definitely not something observed with 5.1.5 yet.
When opening a ticket, please mention whether the problem occurs with just one camera or all.

Thank,s
- Alex
