Record when PC active
Can anybody please tell me why my camera will only record when my PC id active?

I assume you mean "is active"...
Just like your stove won't cook something unless the burner under the pot is turned on, the computer cannot move data from the camera to the harddrive unless it is turned on and running a program to perform that process.
SightHound is a program that can run on the computer to perform that task and in the process also interprets successive frames of video to detect changes in the scene to determine if motion occurred and then writes that info to a database. SightHound also reads that database when you want to see just the video of when the motion occurred without having to sit and view all the video looking for it yourself.
