Image quality, camera's interface web site vs Sighthound

by ropedrag » Thu May 25, 2017 9:21 am

I recently purchased two Dahua IPC-HDW5231R-Z cameras. These are replacing a Hikvision dome and mini dome.

I mounted and installed the 1st IPC-HDW5231R-Z without issue but something is a bit strange here and I'm trying to understand why.

OK, on the camera's interface web page the live video image looks awesome as hell, an excellent image that is actually better than my 4MP Hickvision cameras....impressive! However I'm using Sighthound (pro edition) and the image is not nearly as good when I view the live stream and more importantly the recorded files made by Sighthound.

I am trying to figure out why the Sighthound (that has no image adjustments) image is of marginal quality compared to the cameras interface website. I have to assume that the image the camera displays on its interface website is the same image it sends to Sighthound. Certainly it doesn't differ... does it?

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

Are you using a high resolution monitor?

If both images are being displayed on the same monitor is has to be something with the stream being sent to the two programs (browser viewing the home page stream, and SightHound viewing a different stream).

You can alter camera's setup in SightHound to store the video in a different resolution and usually this should be set to "Match Source, but it will never be better (looking) than what SightHound is receiving.

Yu may have to find a different "Stream Path" parameter in the setup to access a higher resolution stream. Check the camera's manual (or look on the manufacturer's website) to see if you can find documentation as to what the commands are to access different stream paths.

Maybe the techs at SightHound will chime in here with the info if they happen to know it.
