Lost all cameras

by sivart321 » Tue May 16, 2017 1:51 am

I restarted my computer tonight and when I opened sighthound there were no cameras showing. All of my video history is there but the camera screen is blank. See below.

It would be nice if the answer were public rather than in a personal email. I too have lost all my cameras after reboot on two occasions. After I add cameras to put them back, everything works fine and all the old files are there.

Hi Don,

If this happens again please submit a bug report immediately after. In the report sivart321 filed there was a full system freeze which required a reboot and after the camera database was corrupt, though the exact reason for this is impossible to identify. As you are experiencing this in a different and reproducible circumstance we can work with you to discover what may be occurring on your system to provide a solution and/or a bug fix to SV.

I just went through and added 17 cameras back. I don't want to have to do that again. Is there anyway to back this up please?

In Winders, you can go to the "C:\Users\{Username}\AppData\Local\Sighthound\" folder (I am not at the computer that has Sighthound at present, so that may not be the exact path!) and then copy the "CAMDB" file. You might also want to copy the "Rules" folder to get all the defined rules for your cameras. I don't know the path on a MAC, but I am sure it is something similar.

I totally agree, the response should be copied and anything personally identifiable remove. This will save you time in the long run.
It is a personal peeve of mine when people post "i've fixed it" and don't tell what the solution is; this is the same.
I do think the software should have a backup configuration button.

I share your sentiment on "fixed" posts with no information. If there had been a known cause and resolution to the original occurrence we would have posted it in reply, at this point there is not.

Backup and restore of all settings whether for archival, moving from machine to machine or OS to OS is something I'd like to see in the application as well.

Like several others after reboots, none of the cameras work anymore.
This has happened quite often since a few months ago. After latest update?
Everything is fine if I go to the Camera Setup Test Screen, where the video works fine; however, upon clicking Finish, there is always:

Could Not Connect displayed for all cameras.

This seems to be a common problem with your software recently. You really should provide a clear answer.
It seems highly suspicious that you do not provide an explanation or resolution on this board. And very odd that you have not resolved the issue over the past several months.
It should not take days for your software to start working after closing the software, rebooting, and restarting the software. It was never a problem until shortly after the initial license came up for renewal.
Deleting each camera, then adding each camera does work; but is very tedious and time consuming. Your customers should not have to spend time doing so each time they reboot their computer.

The problem described in the thread you're replying to was about cameras disappearing, not what you seem to be describing which is cameras not showing as connected.

Where are you seeing cameras shown as not connected? There was a bug affecting half a dozen users that would cause this on some of their cameras in the grid view which has since been fixed. Please make sure you're using the latest version by visiting "Help->Check for Updates". If you're still experiencing trouble send us a bug report from "Help->Report a Problem".

I'm not sure I understand what you mean about taking days to start, if you can elaborate on that we'd be glad to help.

The only thing that the support expiration date controls within the app is whether a user would be prompted to update to a new major version or not, so any behavior change on or around that expiration date would be purely coincidental.
