How to temporarily STOP push notifications

by Max&Leo » Mon Apr 17, 2017 12:29 pm

I went camping over the weekend and wanted to maximize iPhone battery life, so I turned off all non-essential functions of my phone. I was hoping that logging out of the Sighthound app would result in the phone not being pinged each time an alert is generated. Unfortunately, even though I signed out, I still got notifications (that I was unable to follow when I selected them since I was logged out). I had to manually delete the app.

Am I missing something? How does a user temporarily STOP push notifications from being sent to their phone?

Next time go to Settings > Notifications, scroll down to Sighthound and turn off "Allow Notifications"

You're answering a question I'm not asking. It's not that I don't want to SEE the notifications, it's that I want to prevent the phone's battery being wasted by RECEIVING them.

Your phone's battery won't be drained by having notifications enabled. The application isn't running in the background to receive notifications, push notifications are received by a global service within the operating system regardless of what application they are meant for. This is true for both iOS and Android explicitly to save battery life rather than allowing applications to run in the background and hold open connections to disparate servers. Your phone's OS itself maintains a connection to Apple or Google's servers and receives and displays notifications as they arrive.

If you want to maximize your phone's battery life rather than adjusting or removing apps go to Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode.

Ok great, so turning notifications OFF prevents them from being sent to the phone in the first place. Appreciate the clarification.
