Can disable or edit default look for filters?

by u8915055 » Mon Mar 06, 2017 3:22 pm

Hello,
i am trialing the software and at first glance it looks really great.

however i am having a problem with excessive file creation in my storage folder.
Now, i read several articles on how file storage works, and all about temporary files and cache and such. I get that.

However, i am using a single camera that is pointed at the front of the house and there is a busy road there as well.

I created a custom search with a box drawn around just the driveway, and set email alerts etc. That seems to work fine.

However, in the "look for" there are the default 'all objects, people, unknown objects' items and these seem to not be editable. Is there away to edit or delete or disable these? Becasue of the busy road, i keep getting all these temp videos created every time a car goes by. But there doesnt seem to be any way to edit those 'look for' items, the default ones, to say draw a box or something to say ignore the road.

For me honestly i dont need the defaults because i created my own.

I swear i read in other posts that you can delete and edit these but for me they seem to be greyed out not allowing editing.

Its just creating a lot of unnecessary files.

Please let me know..thank you kindly.

Hello u8915055,

Sighthound only keeps one set of video, regardless of how many filters and rules exist for your camera so you do not need to worry about extra files being created for each filter and rule. There is no way to delete the default filters, though these do not take up any extra storage space or processing power.

Hello Devin:

I just looked at your reply and I think you are incorrect when you say "these do not take up any extra storage space or processing power." I am set up just like u8915055 in his question ("Can disable or edit default look for filters?"). I am recording from a 4 megapixel IP camera on my front door, and want to catch package thieves so it set up for "People inside my region". But in just ONE HOUR, I have already 2.4 Gigabytes of unnecessary "temp" videos being stored on my hard drive. Every two minutes is almost 100MB! And not one of them is for the area I specified as "People inside my region". Please let me find some way to ONLY record the "People inside my region" and stop all the "unknown objects" recording and Temporary recordings.
This is a "buy or don't buy" issue for me.
Thank you.

Hello Jay,

Sighthound is not recording multiple versions of the same video. The filters are just that, filters. Sighthound is smart enough to take the 1 video that is stored and find specific events within it. If Sighthound is filling up your disc space, you can fix this by saving the temporary video for a shorter period of time. The default for this is 48 hours. You can change this to as low as 1 hour. Then Sighthound will automatically delete any video that has not been invoked by a rule. You can find more information about this at the link below:

https://www.sighthound.com/support/managing-your-video

You can also save space by lowering the resolution of your camera. The higher the resolution of the video the more memory it takes to save. If you are still having issues after doing both of these, can you please click Help > Report a Problem from your Sighthound app. This will send us over your logs which will help us investigate this issue further.

We will be standing by for your reply, thank you!

Regards,
-Kevin
