Person Face Recognition For Your IFTTT Channel Is Needed

by Simeon Tuitt » Thu Feb 23, 2017 8:52 am

Hi, can you add person recognition to your Windows server software so it can be used to trigger an IFTTT event, I want to set my smart lock up to unlock my door after it recognises a family member.

Thanks.

This is a request that has been asked before many times. Sighthound, please let us know if this is a feature that you are planning to implement in the near future or not. I have noticed that the president at Sighthound is very communicative with his users, this is a great news. I can see lot of cool things that can be done with this. I belong to an Home Automation forum and I'm sure they will love to hear that you have that implemented in your software. One developer has implemented your tool into the home automation and with this addition it will be another selling point to buy your software.

Hello Simeon and alphatec,

The addition of facial recognition to Sighthound Video is not imminent. The current work on Sighthound Video is the further improvement of the person detection algorithms, improvements to the remote access applications and some other high-demand features.

The work we do on facial recognition, vehicle detection and recognition and license plate recognition is targeted at enterprise customers for now. One reason is the ability to target the deployment environment. We re-architected SV for the 4.0 release, which led to fairly dramatic reductions in CPU usage, but we'd need to take a lot of that back to process recognition (if we did it on device).

Having said that, we're doing a lot of work in the field of computer vision, it's all our own IP, and we'd like to make SV even more of a stand-out product than it already is. So in general, yes, we think that expanding the capabilities of SV in the ways you mention is a good idea, and something we'd like to do.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.
