Seriously slow performance

by coastdweller » Sun Feb 19, 2017 1:58 pm

Since upgrading to 4.1 and then 4.2 the usability has gone to nill. As a test I installed a 2008 server and after a fresh install it's unbearable still. This is even with a ramdisk for the database clips.

2 X5650 processor cores 24gb ram, 15k hdd. (Xenserver hypervisor client).

That's quite odd to hear. Is there a specific part of the application that you feel is performing more slowly in 4.X vs 3.X? Is it sluggishness within the app, noticing higher CPU usage in general, or something else?

What type of video streams are you connecting to?

When viewing default rules, the clips really drag now in being listed, and the program freezes up. This freeze was noticed after upgrading on the 2012 server right away from the 3 version to the next verion as well as the followup verion 4-1 and then 4-2

So as a test I installed a new VM of 2008 server as it's much more simplistic in it's code base. Immediately the slowness was noted (Fresh domain connect VM fully updated etc) with plenty of resources.

The server is accessible through RDP if necessary to test this.

There is only one camera and it's configured identically as before. It's a Hikvision 2CD2532F-IWS

The program is reporting freezing (As it did on the other installation) when viewing clips. It's unuseable for clip viewing (On the 2012 server I used a Ramdisk to speed up the slow performing clip reviewing) and at did speed up the listing. The slowness started with the upgrade, and is reproduceable with the new VM with the latest SH.

I don't notice a spike in disk, cpu or mem usage through the hypervisor manager nor in the VM with resource manager.

Finally a solution to this. Created a ramdisk, moved entire sighthound folder to the ramdisk.

Created symbolic link to ramdisk

C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Sighthound Video (This entire folder) moved to a 5gb ramdisk.

Now application runs normally, quick.
