Looking for help on SV3C / Netcam camera to SightHound

by JakeJ » Sun Feb 05, 2017 3:38 pm

I purchased an HD wireless/wired camera on Amazon that appears to be working fine but Sighthound is not recognizing the stream properly. The camera listing is:
Code: Select all
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LZY3C00/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I set it up using their setup tool and I can view the stream on their monitor software OR on VLC as:

Code: Select all
rtsp://192.xxx.xxx.236:10554/tcp/av0_0
even though the camera does have an admin login/pw.
If I add the login info to the stream address, it also works.
Code: Select all
rtsp://admin:[email protected]:10554/tcp/av0_0

In Sighthound, I "Add a new Camera" and go through the steps. It does find the camera on my network as an ONVIF camera from "Netcam, Inc." at the assigned IP address. I enter login/pw and it does find two video streams: the HD one above and a SD one as above with av0_1 at end instead.

However, when I select a stream, it simply will not connect! It just hangs with little browser window showing "Connecting"

I can access the stream through a browser as it instructs too, but in that case
Code: Select all
http://192.xxx.xxx.236/index.html
accesses a menu to select between Firefox, Internet Explorer, or the SD card inside to view stream. Clicking Firefox leaves the html address same, and shows the stream - after asking for username and password in a pop-up window.

It may be this intermediate step that is screwing up Sighthound. But I've gotten the stream to display on two other video surveillance software programs (UC and Xeoma) without problem either.

OTHER INFO: The setup software does allow changing the RTSP port number if needed. Otherwise, it only has an RTSP setting for "Open" or "Close" and close cuts off stream. There is an ONVIF setting too that is just "open" or "close".

Please advise! I really bought this to use on my existing network of cams..
Thx,
Jake

Hello Jake,

Some cameras have separate credentials for ONVIF and for the video stream. I recommend checking the camera configuration web page to see if there are additional settings for ONVIF viewing and so on.

If that does not work, you should still be able to manually add the camera. If the camera is already configured in Sighthound using ONVIF, you can right-click the live view, select Edit Camera, then choose to manually add the camera. You should see the stream setting information automatically fill in due to the ONVIF configuration. If not, you can use the URL that worked in VLC, which would be entered as so:

Protocol: rtsp
Port: 10554
Stream Path: /tcp/av0_0

If that does not work, please send us a bug report by going to Help > Report a Problem and we'll take a look at your logs. Be sure to include a link to this post so we know it's from you.

Regards,

-Devin

Thanks for the help Devin.
I tried all of those methods and Sighthound still hangs at "Connecting"
There were no settings for ONVIF other than an "open/close" switch. For rtsp, the only setting shown is same "open/close" and it shows the port number as 10554 but does not appear to be editable.

When I login to camera via browser on http port 80, it shows menu in attached image after login credentials entered. Clicking on Firefox selection shows stream with no problem and I can enter into settings via that next screen too. Perhaps that intermediate step is the issue. The html code for that button is:
Code: Select all
 <onclick="javascript:signin_serverpush()"

clicking it does not change the browser address from http://IP_address/index.html - it just executes that javascript and shows stream...

I submitted a bug report from Sighthound... so hopefully you can discover something from log.
No problem seeing the stream from Firefox, when lo

Jake

As a followup to this post, this particular camera did not allow access when a username/password was provided for the direct stream. Removing these fields allowed the camera to connect.

SV3C HD 960P WiFi Wireless Security Camera Outdoor, Aluminum Metal Housing, Motion Detection Alarm/Recording, Support Max 64GB SD Card

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073G ... UTF8&psc=1

Relevant setting info located here: https://www.ispyconnect.com/man.aspx?n=SV3C#
relevant camera info listed in this rowr: 960P HD, FFMPEG, rtsp://, /11, Possible, None

How to make the FFMPEG stream work using rtsp settings
Assumes video stream can be viewed in web browser, IP address and RTSP Port setting noted or modified within Settings—> Network tab of the camera landing page…

Setting within Sighthound Camera Setup

Type: Other IP Camera

Protocol: rtsp

IP address: 192.168.xxx.xxx

RTSP port: xxx (e.g. 554?, 10554?)

Stream path: 11

Inputs Generate the following string . . . rtsp://192.168.xxx.xxx:554/11

user name: [whatever name you’ve set…]

password: [whatever password you’ve set…]
password: again…

uncheck record audio

check: Force TCP connection

Hit “Next” tab and be patient…. count to 7 and presto! video in view.
Label camera location accordingly, set parameters, etc.

Note: I spent HOURS composing complicated rtsp strings to no avail, when a simple “11” (that’s it!) is all that is required, in addition to IP address and port

Done
